Think! Challenge #45 -- Water Wheel

The Think! Challenge #45 was to construct a water wheel using a dowel, 8 index cards, a cardboard tube, string, a Sharpie, and tape. Zee went right down to business, knowing exactly how the wheel should look. At first, he had trouble making the cards stand up properly without flopping over. He solved this by adding strips of tape between the cards, as shown in the photo.

When asked to critique his work, Zee had the following comments:
"It's a very temporary water wheel. I could have made a better one with more materials." After a brief pause, he confessed that he "couldn't figure out what the Sharpie was for!"

I'm not sure either. Perhaps the friendly folks at Think! could clue us in?

If this is your first time here, please be sure to check out our other Think Challenges!

The tape in between the cards is a great idea! We're new to the think! challenges, but my five year old is really getting into them, too.

We love looking at Zee's creations. Keep up the great work, Zee!
